SWAT team searches for assault suspect in North Tustin

A man hit another man with a bat then apparently hid inside a RV in North Tustin — prompting a street closure on Monday, Oct. 10, as SWAT rolled in, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.

At around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, a man in his 30s who lived on the property on the 18300 block of 17th Street got into a fight with another resident, took out a bat, then hit the other man on his head, Sgt. Scott Steinle said.

Sheriff’s officials believe the man with the bat ran into one of several RVs parked on the property. When deputies arrived, however, it was unclear which one.

Deputies closed off the area on 17th, between Holt and Newport avenues, as they contacted the owner of the property and asked him to open the RVs and other outbuildings crammed onto a large back lot.

As of around 10 a.m. Monday, the suspect had not been found. The Sheriff’s Department sent a large SWAT vehicle to the property as the search continued.

The man hit with the bat was left with a minor injury, treated at the scene and declined to be taken to a hospital, Steinle said.
