The scenic 3-mile stretch known as “The Peninsula” features the harbor on one side and broad, sandy California beaches on the other. Perfect for bike rides, laying out on the sand or cruising the harbor, Balboa Peninsula has something for everyone.
Hang Ten
Newport Beach is at the center of California surf culture, and whether by board or bare body, the local waves are always inviting. It’s never too late to learn and Endless Sun Surf School offers private lessons and camps for kids. Stop by The Wedge, an iconic surfing spot to watch bodyboarders conquer 30-foot swells during the high season.
Dive Into Seaside Dining
From fast-casual seafood fare (Dory Deli) to beachfront dining (Lighthouse Bayview Cafe) to romantic surf and turf (21 Oceanfront), there’s no shortage of fresh seafood on Balboa Peninsula.
Beach Cruise
There’s no better way to intimately experience the Peninsula then on your own two wheels. Rent a ride from Boardwalk Sports and leisurely pedal around Balboa Village, along the boardwalk and even across to Balboa Island by taking the Balboa Island Ferry. Many establishments feature locks, so you can park and play along the way.
Coastal Cheer
No visit to the Peninsula is complete without at least one libation from the many beach bars like Stag Bar, Chihuahua Cerveza, Blackie’s by the Sea, Mutt Lynch’s and Malarky’s Irish Pub.
