FULLERTON A 20-year-old walk-on wrestling coach at Troy High School was arrested Friday, Dec. 1, on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student, police said.
Garrett Granger of Fullerton was booked into the Fullerton City Jail on suspicion of various sex crimes, police Sgt. Jon Radus said.
Fullerton police school resource officers responded Friday morning to Troy High after being alerted by the school’s administration of a possible inappropriate relationship between Granger, a part-time coach, and a girl who attends the school, Radus said.
A school employee reported witnessing Granger and the student in an area of campus where it seemed inappropriate for them to be together.
School resource officers determined Granger had engaged in a sexual relationship with the girl in the last few weeks, Radus said.
Radus credited school officials with quickly alerting police about suspicious activity. “This is an excellent example of someone reporting an incident to the authorities that didn’t seem right,” he said.
Parents of Troy High School students as well as staff members have been notified of Granger’s arrest, Jennifer Williams, executive director of administrative services for the Fullerton Joint Union High School District, said.
“He no longer has access to students,” she added.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Fullerton police Detective L. Garcia at 714-738-6358. Information can also be provided anonymously at 1-855-TIP-OCCS or at p3tips.
