Anaheim man killed in Orange when struck by suspected DUI driver

A 51-year-old Anaheim man was fatally struck by at least one vehicle, with the driver believed to be under the influence, in Orange on Friday, Feb. 23, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. after the suspect, a 60-year-old man from Yorba Linda, was driving at an unknown speed eastbound on Lincoln Avenue, west of Berkeley Street in a Ford pickup truck before striking the pedestrian, the CHP said.

The pedestrian may have walked southbound into the path of the truck, from the center divider, a preliminary investigation revealed.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His name had not been released by authorities as of Wednesday.

The driver, whose name also was not released pending the ongoing investigation, was arrested on suspicion of causing injury while driving under the influence, Officer Sergio Rivera said.

Authorities are also investigating the possibility of a hit-and-run in addition to the vehicle vs. pedestrian collision. A preliminary investigation showed an  additional vehicle may have struck the pedestrian and fled the scene, following the initial crash, Rivera said.
