Small earthquake strikes near Huntington Beach; no damage reported

A small earthquake struck late Friday near Huntington Beach, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Huntington Beach police said there were no immediate reports of damage from the quake, which had a preliminary magnitude of 3.4 and was centered about two miles southeast of the city. The quake struck at 9:52 p.m.

Police Capt. Bo Svendsbo told City News Service that the department dispatched a helicopter to look for damage but none had been reported.

The USGS reported responses to their agency from the minor shaking from residents in various Orange County cities, including Newport Beach, Tustin and Los Alamitos. Social media users reported feeling the jolt in Costa Mesa, Long Beach, Garden Grove and surrounding areas, according to NBC4.
