Driver of SUV in fatal hit-and-run sought by deputies

A hit-and-run crash in Stanton left a person dead Tuesday morning, and investigators have asked for the public’s help in identifying the driver of the SUV that struck them, officials said Wednesday.

A pedestrian was struck by an SUV near Knott and Katella Avenues at about 5:40 a.m. Tuesday, Orange County Sheriff’s Department officials said in a news release. The driver involved in the crash left the victim in the roadway, and fled northbound on Knott before authorities arrived.

The pedestrian’s identity was not immediately released. The victim was described as a male by sheriff’s officials.

The vehicle that hit him was a light-colored SUV with a dark trim, possibly a 2003-2017 Ford Expedition, sheriff’s officials said. It was equipped with roof racks, and should have sustained front end damage.

Deputies asked anyone with information about the crash or the suspect vehicle to to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 714-647-7000. Tips can also be left anonymously with OC Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS (855-847-6227), or at https://occrimestoppers.org
