Tustin police tow dozens of cars away from street takeover

Tustin police dispersed a massive street takeover last week — citing 20 people and towing more than 50 cars that had been blocking a local intersection.

Police said they spotted about 300 cars parked on Tustin Ranch Road and at Park and Warner avenues at around 11:40 p.m. on Friday, July 28 after getting several calls about the takeover.

“Vehicles were actively doing burnouts in the intersection while spectators observed, shined lasers, and set off fireworks,” Tustin police said in a statement.

One person suffered several broken bones when struck by a car doing burnouts. The victim was taken to a local hospital.

It’s not clear if the driver of the car doing burnouts was arrested.

After police arrived, they ended up towing 51 cars from the area. The 20 citations were issued “for a variety of California Vehicle Code violations,” police said. They did not give more details on what the citations were.
