A man was shot and killed by Anaheim police early Thursday morning, March 3, in a residential neighborhood after an hours-long standoff, authorities said.
For several hours, Anaheim police tried de-escalation tactics including trying to talk with the man, Sgt. Shane Carringer said.
Police had received a call around 9:45 p.m. about an armed man acting erratically inside the house, in the 600 block of South Resh Street, with the caller saying he fired a shot.
After arriving, officers heard what they thought was another gunshot.
It was unclear if the shots were fired inside the home or in the backyard, the sergeant said.
About 3:50 a.m., the man came to the front door and police fired at him, Carringer said. What specifically prompted at least one officer to fire was immediately unclear, Carringer said, adding police found the man’s firearm.
His identity was not made public by police pending notification of his relatives.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office was leading the investigation, Carringer said, noting that the state Attorney General’s Office would have been called if the man was unarmed.
