Stretch of Laguna Beach coast closed due to sewage spill

An area of coastline in Laguna Beach has been closed to swimmers, surfers and divers due to a sewage spill, authorities said Saturday, Dec. 23.

The Orange County Health Care Agency’s Environmental Health Division closed the area from Victoria Beach to Goff Island Beach. The agency said approximately 1,964 gallons spilled due to a blockage in a sewer main in Laguna Beach.

The affected area will remain closed until the results of follow-up water quality monitoring meet acceptable standards.

On Nov. 29, an area of Laguna Beach stretching from Laguna Avenue to Blue Lagoon was closed in response to a 94,500-gallon sewage spill. Officials said that spill was caused by a break in a “force main sewer line.”
