Storm to bring rain Wednesday in Southern California ahead of warm, sunny weekend

It will be a wet Wednesday in Southern California this week as a storm system makes it way across the region, bringing with it some light rain and chance of thunderstorms ahead of a warm weekend.

The system was expected to arrive in the evening on Wednesday, March 6, focusing mostly over the coastal areas with the mountains receiving slightly lower showers, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Elizabeth Adams.

Orange County residents were expected to see rain start as early as the afternoon on Wednesday with more heavier pockets falling in the evening, Adams said. Los Angeles County will be the next stop on the storms path with rainfall starting in the early evening.

Similar rainfall totals of around a fifth to three quarters of an inch of rain were expected on Wednesday in both counties.

The Inland Empire will also receive some light showers though not as strong as along the coast, Adams said. Around a third to a half inch of rain will fall over San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

While this most recent system won’t compare to some of the heavier storms that have doused the region and led to flooding and mudslides, it “will bring some much needed rainfall,” Adams said.

The system is expected to move on by Thursday, though some areas along the coast could receive a few straggling pockets of rain.

After that, Adams said the region will experience a warming trend with temperatures climbing into the low to mid 70s and clear skies ahead of the weekend.
