Black Lives Matters supporter Michelle Usher and Santa Ana police Cmdr. Matt Sorenson share an emotional moment when Usher asks him if he thinks she’s a bad person, as a counterprotester suggested. They were outside the Hall of Administration in Santa Ana on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 while the Orange County Board of Supervisors held a public meeting. While speakers inside addressed the board about the coronavirus mask- mandate and defunding the police, several dozen protesters and counter groups clashed outside during a rally. The event remained mostly peaceful, however. (Photo by Mindy Schauer, Orange County Register/SCNG)

Black Lives Matters supporter Michelle Usher and a Santa Ana police officer share a moment together while holding hands outside the Hall of Administration on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. Usher was trying to keep several dozen protesters peaceful after a counterprotester grabbed a sign and ripped it. Later in the day Usher brought some officers to tears when she asked them if they thought she was a bad person, as a counter protester suggested. As the Orange County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday in the Santa Ana Hall of Administration, Black Lives Matter protester Michelle Usher stirred the emotions of some police officers who were outside keeping watch on a few dozen protesters. After a protester with another group cursed at Usher and told her she was a bad person, Usher walked down the line of about 10 cops, asking each if they agreed. Some looked teary-eyed as they answered “no.”
Meanwhile, inside, the public got to voice concerns about defunding the police and coronavirus-mandated masks
