Man from Orange dies after car in Long Beach hits his electric scooter

A 32-year-old man riding an electric scooter was struck by a car in Long Beach and later died at a hospital Saturday morning, July 17, authorities said.

Long Beach police responded to a traffic collision in the area of Seventh Street and Ohio Avenue about 3:30 a.m. and found the rider in the roadway, police said.

The man appeared to be riding the scooter along Seventh Street when he was struck by a car going westbound, police said.

The driver, a Long Beach man, stopped and officers learned he was driving on an expired license, police said. Whether the driver was arrested or cited was not disclosed by police.

Police identified the scooter rider as an Orange resident but withheld his identity pending notification of his relatives.
