A 29-year-old La Mirada man was arrested this week on suspicion of shooting at a Downtown Fullerton bar and injuring a man shortly after being kicked out of the establishment, authorities said.
Christian Hernandez was taken into custody Wednesday, July 7, a day after a shooting at JP23 Urban Kitchen and Bar, on the southwest corner of Harbor Boulevard and Commonwealth Avenue, left a 24-year-old man wounded, Corporal Billy Phu said.
Hernandez and another man had just been kicked out of the bar following an altercation inside, Phu said. Just past 1 a.m. Tuesday, shots were fired at the bar from a dark-colored sedan headed westbound on Commonwealth Avenue.
The victim, who was standing outside the bar when the shots were fired, was taken to a hospital and was expected to survive, Phu said.
Detectives followed several leads and identified Hernandez as the suspect, Phu said. He was arrested in La Mirada.
Detectives also found a dark-colored sedan matching the suspect vehicle description and three firearms while executing search warrants, Phu said.
Hernandez was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm and shooting into an inhabited dwelling, Phu said. He was being held on $500,000 bail.
