Fire near Camp Pendleton prompts precautionary evacuations

A fire in the area of Camp Pendleton prompted some residential evacuations as it cast plumes of smoke into the air Sunday afternoon, June 12.

The blaze was initially reported at 12:28 p.m. along the 600 block of Wala Drive, Camp Pendleton officials said in a Tweet. No evacuations had been ordered on base.

Howver, Oceanside police advised people living along Wala Drive, Rimhurst Court and Shadowtree Drive to leave their houses, out of an abundance of caution. Those displaced from their homes can find aid at a relief center set up at El Camino High School, 400 Rancho Del Oro Road.

Further information about the fire was not immediately released.
