A driver was killed in a solo crash early Saturday morning after the vehicle slammed into a tree and burst into flames, authorities said.
Irvine police were called to Harvard Avenue, just north of University Drive, around 4:05 a.m., Sgt. Karie Davies said.
The vehicle was believed to have been heading southbound along Harvard when the crash occurred, Davies said. The type of vehicle and what caused the crash were not immediately available, she said.
The driver’s identity was not disclosed by police pending notification of relatives.
Police closed Harvard Avenue from University Drive to Michelson Drive to investigate the cause of the crash. The closure was anticipated to last until about 12:30 p.m., police said.
