Coronavirus: 80.6% of those over 65 fully vaccinated in OC as of Sept. 29

The map below is from the OC Health Care Agency’s dashboard update on Wednesday, Sept. 29, and shows coronavirus test positivity rates – the rate at which tests taken are coming back positive for the virus – by ZIP code.

Case rates and testing positivity (which are both provided as the average over seven days, lagging for a week to give time for more complete data to be factored in) are updated each Wednesday, reflecting information up to the prior day for testing data, and same day for case data. Calculations are based on guidelines from the California Department of Public Health.

Here are some of the ZIP codes with the highest positivity rate for Sept. 29:

  • 92662: 6.7%
  • 92672: 5.95%
  • 92866: 5.6%

Note: All Orange County ZIP codes are in single digits for the first time since early July.

**Note: ZIP codes with less than 20 cases can result in unstable rate estimates and should be interpreted with caution.

Orange County’s daily case rate dropped from 11.3 cases per 100,000 people last week to 9.7 per 100,000 this week, which would have still been in the red tier (substantial tier) of the California Department of Public Health’s four-tier color system, if it was still in place. The test positivity rate in the county is 3.4% (7-day average with 7-day lag), down from 3.7% last week, which would be in the orange tier (Moderate tier). Both metrics have improved in the last few weeks. This is the first week after several months that the case rate has gone down from what would have been the purple tier to red.

The average daily number of new cases (7-day average with 7-day lag) in Orange County was 327 cases per day (as of Sept. 29), down from 391 cases per day the prior week. Last year, on Sept. 23, it was 192. The peak for the daily rate was 3,497 on Jan. 8.
