SANTA ANA — A 48-year-old man pleaded guilty and was immediately sentenced Friday to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old female relative in Santa Ana 19 years ago.
Olegario Sigifredo Sorianosantos pleaded guilty to two counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor and two counts of forcible lewd acts on a child, all felonies, according to court records.
The assaults date back to March 1998 and continued through 2000, according to court records.
Senior Deputy District Attorney Whitney Bokosky said the victim lived with the defendant for about a year then.
The victim this year “came forward after many years because she recently saw the defendant in her neighborhood and got scared,” Bokosky said.
The prosecutor said she was able to file the charges because of a change in the law that can keep a case open until the victim is 40, rather than 28 as it was before.
