Coronavirus: Orange County reported 408 new cases and 19 new deaths as of Aug. 29

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 408 new cases of the coronavirus as of Saturday, Aug. 29, bringing the cumulative total of positive tests to 48,190 cases.

An estimated 12,751 new cases have been reported in the last 30 days.

There were 19 new deaths reported in Orange County on Saturday, raising the death toll to 975 people.

The data on deaths in the county is compiled from death certificates or gathered through the course of case investigations and can take weeks to process, officials say. The most recent deaths were on Aug. 25.

Of the 975 deaths countywide, 370 were skilled nursing facility residents, 63 were in assisted living facilities and one was listed as homeless.

It is estimated that more than three-quarters of the cumulative reported cases, or 40,721 as of Saturday, have recovered. The count of people who have recovered is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.

The county reports a total of 624,816 tests have been given since testing began, and at least 812 tests were reported in the last 24 hours.

The county reported 341 patients in hospitals with the coronavirus, which is nearly 50% less than the peak of 722 confirmed hospitalizations on July 14.

The county report showed there are 99 patients in ICUs as of Friday.

The county’s breakdown of deaths by age is as follows:

    • 85 and older: 31% (302)
    • 75-84: 22% (212)
    • 65-74: 20% (195)
  • 55-64: 13% (136)
  • 45-54: 9% (84)
  • 35-44: 3% (29)
  • 25-34: 1.3% (13)
  • 18-24: <1% (3)
  • 17 and younger: 0% (1)

Data posted each day is preliminary and subject to change, officials emphasize. More information may become available as individual case investigations are completed.
