Two suspects arrested in robbery of mail carrier in Fountain Valley

Two suspects were arrested after they reportedly robbed a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier with a fake handgun in Fountain Valley, police announced Wednesday.

The robbery occurred on July 24 around 2 p.m. when the mail carrier was on foot servicing a drop-box in the Bushard Street and Toucan Avenue area. No mail was stolen. Instead, the suspects took other property belonging to the Postal Service, Sgt. Bill Hughes said.

The police did not elaborate on what the other property was. Less than two weeks later, on Aug. 5 at around 2 a.m., officers detained two individuals inside a suspicious vehicle near a mail collection box in the Magnolia Street and Talbert Avenue area.

Officers found more than 100 pieces of stolen mail, an imitation handgun, and property belonging to the victim inside the car. The two suspects, an 18-year-old Los Angeles man and a 16-year-old male juvenile from Huntington Beach, were arrested on multiple charges, police said.

Authorities believe the robbery is connected to other mail theft in the area, according to Sgt. Hughes.
