LONG BEACH — About 40 children in transitional kindergarten through second grade are expected to return to the Saint Maria Goretti Catholic in Long Beach Monday morning for in-person instruction.
The small, private school is the first Catholic school in Los Angeles County to receive waiver approval to reopen for the first time since the March COVID-19 shutdown, school officials said.
Kindergarten students return for full-time in-person instruction, and first and second grade students will be on a hybrid schedule of time with teacher and distance learning.
Classrooms are set up to accommodate social distancing with transparent partitions on each desk, and all students are required to wear face coverings, school officials said. Hand-washing stations were installed in outdoor spaces, and distancing markers are found throughout the campus. Also, students’ temperature will be checked upon arrival.
