Second teen dies following Huntington Beach crash, official says

A second teenager has died following a crash involving a pickup truck and a city vehicle in Huntington Beach, an Orange County coroner’s spokeswoman said Tuesday, March 8.

The collision Monday around 8:15 a.m. in the intersection of Newland Street and Yorktown Avenue involved a white Ford F-250 pickup and a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup, police said. The two male teenage occupants of the Ford were taken to a hospital while the city worker in the Chevrolet was uninjured, police said.

One of the teenagers died at the hospital while the other was hospitalized in critical condition Monday afternooon, authorities said. The second victim, who was 17 years old, died from his injuries late Monday, a coroner’s spokeswoman said Tuesday morning.

The name of the second victim was not immediately released Tuesday by the coroner’s office.

The teen who died earlier was Joshua Page, 18, of Westminster, officials said Monday.

Joshua Page and his brother, Jeremy Page, who friends said was the other person in the Ford, were honored Monday evening during a vigil at Edison High School in Huntington Beach, where they are known as students and football players. The school website lists Joshua as a senior and Jeremy as a sophomore.

More than 200 people gathered in the quad at the high school for the vigil. Some had roses, candles or packets of tissue paper. They wept, sometimes laughed, or sat silently as students, faculty and friends of the Page family prayed and shared stories about the brothers.

The Irvine Police Department was investigating the crash because it involved an employee of the city of Huntington Beach, police said.

Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, authorities said.

“I am so sorry to hear about the tragic traffic collision that took place this morning,” Huntington Beach Mayor Barbara Delgleize said in the news release Monday. “On behalf of myself and the City Council we wish to extend our sincerest condolences to the families impacted by this terrible accident.”
