Police detained a man Friday night, Dec. 8, on suspicion of trying to set vegetation fires near the Anaheim Hills Festival shopping center.
Shortly before 6 p.m. Anaheim Fire & Rescue officials alerted the public to the search of a male suspect who was seen trying to set fires. Police officers set up a perimeter near the shopping center, on Santa Ana Canyon Road, to look for the male wearing all black.
Two witnesses at the scene chased the suspected arsonist and detained him so officers could take him into custody, fire officials said. As of late Friday night, he had not been formally arrested or identified by authorities.
There were no active fires in the area during the search or apprehension.
Investigators are working to determine if any other suspects were involved.
The incident comes after several large fires erupted in parts of Southern California this week.
