A pickup crashed into a one-story home in Orange late Friday night, destroying the house, authorities said.
Around 10:45 p.m. a blue truck traveling east on Katella Avenue veered off the road and slammed into the front of a house on the 2400 block of E. Katella Avenue, Sgt. Phil McMullin from the Orange Police Department said.
No one inside the home was injured, police said. The driver of the truck had what were described as minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital before being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Sam Briones was in his own house a few yards away watching TV with his girlfriend when he heard a screech and then a loud crash, Briones told a news videographer with OC Hawk at the scene.
“We’re shaken up,” Briones said. “Obviously we are just one house over.”
The crash caused the gas meter to be damaged and a minor gas leak resulted. Orange Fire Department was able to shut off the gas and stabilize the structure, but it was still red-tagged and deemed uninhabitable.
The family was relocated, with assistance from the Red Cross.
