A new swell started to show up through the day on Monday, and will be beefing up the next few days along the coastline.
Waves in the 2- to 4-foot range rolled into areas including Huntington Beach, just a taste of what forecasters are expecting starting on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory through Thursday, warning of waves in the 5- to 9-foot range, with sets up to 10 to 13 foot, the largest in southern San Diego County.
Other areas, including San Clemente and, farther up the coast, Hermosa Beach, also will be hit with large surf.
“Large breaking waves, very strong rip currents, waves overtopping jetties and coastal rock formations and sneaker waves. Minor coastal flooding and beach erosion during high tides,” the warning reads.
Surfline.com, a surf forecasting company based in Huntington Beach, is calling for waves in the 5-to 8-foot range, with occasional 10-foot and larger sets.
There’s also a small-craft advisory in place until about 3 a.m. Thursday.
Rain and snow showers are expected in the mountains and higher foothills Friday afternoon and night, followed by another storm next Monday through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
