Pedestrian struck and killed in Mission Viejo

MISSION VIEJO — A 64-year-old pedestrian who was fatally struck by an SUV in Mission Viejo on Sunday was identified by the Orange County coroner’s office.

The crash that killed Marty Mannani of San Juan Capistrano happened on a street about 7:35 a.m., the coroner’s office reported.

Mannani died on the street 12 minutes later, the coroner reported.

It was unclear if Mannani was in a crosswalk when he was hit.

The crash was being investigated by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, which in a statement said the pedestrian later identified as Mannani was struck as a tried to cross Marguerite Parkway near Alerzal.

“The driver was not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He remained on scene and was cooperative with our investigation,” the statement said, adding the investigation was continuing.
