New communications system improves public safety

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Emergency Communications Bureau (ECB) is responsible for answering all 9-1-1 calls for our 13 partner contract cities and all unincorporated areas and all non-emergency phone calls to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. On average, ECB receives and handles nearly a half million phone calls a year.
After months of research, including looking at other large public agencies, it was decided that an automated phone answering system for all incoming non-emergency phone calls would be necessary to keep up with the phone call demand, improve our customer service and, most importantly, improve public safety.
