SANTA ANA — More than two dozen felony charges were filed Monday against a 38-year-old man accused of breaking into laundry machines in more than a dozen Anaheim hotels to steal quarters.
Jesse Moreno faces 27 counts of first-degree burglary stemming from the rash of break-ins that started Jan. 15 and continued through March 28, according to court records.
Moreno is accused of hitting 15 hotels in Anaheim, some more than once, said Anaheim police Sgt. Luis Correa. Investigators suspect he also burglarized laundry machines at hotels in 10 other locations outside of Anaheim, but he has so far not been charged with those alleged break-ins, Correa said.
The total alleged take was about $10,000, Correa said.
Some of the hotel chains victimized include Holiday Inn, Red Lion Inn, Motel 6, Hilton, Anaheim Hotel, Ayres Hotel Anaheim, Cortona Inn and Suites, Quality Inn, Best Western, Double Tree, Fairfield Inn, Days Inn, Sheraton Inn, Wyndham Hotel and Howard Johnson, according to court records.
