Local Juneteenth events planned in Orange County

Here are some Juneteenth-related events planned locally for Friday, June 19, to observe the end of slavery in the United States:

Santa Ana: A community vigil  will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sasscer Park, at West Santa Ana Boulevard and North Ross Street. The vigil will feature Daniel Michael Lynem, the founder of the Black Panther Party’s Santa Ana chapter.

Irvine: A Black Lives Matter protest and vigil will be held from 3 p.m. to sunset at Bill Barber Park, 4 Civic Center Plaza.  A separate block party is planned for 10 a.m. at the Irvine Civic Center.

Anaheim: A sunset vigil will be held 6 to 8 p.m. at Stoddard Park, 1901 S. 9th St.

Los Alamitos: The Haven Family Juneteenth Celebration invites community members for a cleanup in Los Alamitos. Meet at 3401 Norwalk Blvd., in Long Beach, at 4 p.m. A celebration will follow the cleanup from 5 to 8 p.m.

Online: Susan G. Komen Orange County will hold a virtual event at  6 p.m. on its Facebook and YouTube pages. Veronica Jones from City of Hope and Tustin Councilwoman Letitia Clark will participate in the discussion and Q&A on breast health and other relevant topics.
