Loaded handgun seized from 14-year-old girl at Westminster High School

A Fountain Valley high school student was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 25 after bringing a loaded handgun to Westminster High School, police said.

The 14-year-old girl, who is not a student at the Westminster school, showed the gun to a student in a restroom around noon Tuesday, according to Westminster Police Sgt. Eddie Esqueda. No threats were made in connection with the firearm and no injuries occurred, Esqueda said.

It was not immediately clear why the girl was on campus, Esqueda said. Fountain Valley High School is about five miles from the Westminster campus.

School staff was alerted, detained the girl and removed the loaded handgun, police said in a news release.

The girl was arrested on suspicion of possession of a weapon at a school, being a minor in possession of a handgun and carrying a concealed firearm.

As of Wednesday afternoon, she remained in custody at Orange County Juvenile Hall.

The investigation is ongoing. Westminster Police urge anyone with information to contact them at 714-548-3212.
