Garden Grove driver charged with second-degree murder in weekend death of bicyclist in Huntington Beach

SANTA ANA — A 25-year-old Garden Grove motorist was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder for allegedly running down a bike rider in Huntington Beach.

Victor Manuel Romero is accused of killing 33-year-old Raymond MacDonald, a transient, just after 2 a.m. Saturday at Beach Boulevard and Adams Avenue, according to Huntington Beach police Sgt. Eric Warken.

MacDonald was pronounced dead at the scene.

Romero was found about a mile away on foot, Warken said. The black BMW he was driving was found about a half-mile away, where he had crashed into a tree, Warken said.

MacDonald was riding a bike in the east crosswalk of the intersection when he was struck by the BMW, Warken said.
