Driver suspected of DUI, passenger killed in Huntington Beach crash

A 25-year-old Moreno Valley man died following a crash in Huntington Beach, and the Riverside resident who police say was behind the wheel of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving on Sunday, Aug. 23.

Officers were initially summoned at 12:50 a.m. to investigate reports of a hit-and-run at Springdale Street and McFadden Avenue, but learned upon arrival that the incident was a single-vehicle collision, Huntington Beach Police said in a news release. Firefighters had to rescue two men from the wreckage of the crash.

The passenger of the vehicle was seriously hurt, and died at UC Irvine Medical Center, police said. His name was not immediately made public.

The driver suffered minor injuries, and was identified as 21-year-old Miguel Guzman of Riverside. He was released from the hospital and then arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, Huntington Beach Police Lt. Julio Mendez said.

Authorities asked anyone with information regarding the crash to call Huntington Beach Police Traffic Investigator D. Demetre at 714-536-5670.
