Don Juan Avila schools closed after apparent suicide by 13-year-old boy in Aliso Viejo

A 13-year-old boy died of an apparent suicide early Tuesday, March 5, at the campus shared by Don Juan Avila elementary and middle schools in Aliso Viejo.

The boy was found by school staff at around 6:30 a.m. before classes started, said Orange County sheriff’s spokeswoman Carrie Braun. Firefighters were called to the scene on Wood Canyon Drive shortly after and the boy was pronounced dead, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

“He was found out in an open area,” Braun said.

It was unclear whether he was a student there.

No student witnessed the incident, she said.

Classes at the campuses were canceled for the investigation, Braun said, with students re-routed to other schools.
