Coronavirus: Orange County reports 162 new cases and 1 death as of May 31

The Orange County Health Care Agency reported another 162 people have tested positive for the virus as of Sunday, May 31. The total cases reported in the county since the start of testing in March is 6,261.

One more death has been attributed to the coronavirus, making the total number of people in the county who have died 147.

The county has also started releasing an estimate for the number of recoveries from the virus, which was about 2,548 as of Sunday.

With 24 of 25 hospitals reporting, there were 230 people in Orange County hospitalized and 92 in intensive care units.

Sunday’s report noted another 436 tests were conducted to raise the total to 122,239.

Testing rates are about 378 tests per 10,000 Orange County residents. The seven-day average trend for daily tests is 2,140.

The case rate for Orange County is about 18.9 cases per 10,000 residents.

The county’s breakdown of deaths by age is as follows:

  • 85+: 29% (42)
  • 75-84: 27% (40)
  • 65-74: 18% (27)
  • 55-64: 12% (17)
  • 45-54: 9% (13)
  • 35-44: 3% (5)
  • 25-34: 2% (3)
  • 18-24: 0%
  • 0-17: 0%
