2 motorcyclists killed in crash near Tustin-Irvine border

Two men riding motorcycles died after crashing near the border of Tustin and Irvine early Sunday, Oct. 11.

Multiple callers reported a collision in northbound lanes of Jamboree Road near Barranca Parkway at about 3:13 a.m., Tustin Police Lt. Stephanie Nichols said. First responders found a 33-year-old man dead at the scene and a 29-year-old man who was seriously hurt, Orange County Coroners officials said in a news release.

Firefighters were seen in footage recorded shortly after the crash treating the younger motorcyclist before taking him to Orange County Global Medical Center. However, he was pronounced dead early Sunday morning.

The names of the two men who died were not immediately released. There were no passengers involved in the collision, Nichols said.

Details regarding the order of events leading up to the crash were not immediately available, but preliminary investigation suggests one rider collided with the other, and one of the motorcycles struck a fixed object, coroner officials said. The engine of one of the bikes caught fire and was extinguished, Nichols said.

Authorities asked anyone with information on the crash to call Tustin Police Officer Newell at 714-573-3218.
