2 LA firefighters in critical condition, others injured after truck explosion in Wilmington

Two Los Angeles firefighters went to a hospital in critical condition and several others were injured after a truck with pressurized cylinders exploded in Wilmington on Thursday, Feb. 15, authorities said.

Firefighters responded just before 7 a.m. to the truck, on fire, at 1120 N. Alameda St., near Henry Ford Avenue, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange said.

Three firefighters have been sent to a hospital and several others were being evaluated at the scene.

It was believed about seven firefighters were waiting for ambulances to arrive, Prange said.

The cause of the fire and subsequent explosion were unclear.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area.
