2 dead in Westminster wrong-way crash

Two people were killed and one other person was injured after a minivan collided into oncoming traffic on Beach Boulevard in Westminster on Monday afternoon, Feb. 6.

At about 1 p.m., the van was heading north on Beach, near Bolsa Avenue, when it veered into the opposing lanes and crashed into three other vehicles, Westminster police Sgt. Jerad Kent said.

The minivan driver, a Westminster man in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in his vehicle, a woman in her 70s and also from Westminster, was taken to a hospital where she later died from her injuries, said  Westminster Police Sgt. Kevin MacCormick.

Neither of the victims’ identities were released on Monday.

A driver in another vehicle involved in the crash injured their leg and was taken to the hospital.

It was not immediately clear what led the driver to veer or whether drugs or alcohol factored into the crash, Kent said, but the driver was believed to have been speeding.

Anybody who may have witnessed the accident was asked to call Sgt. Anil Adam of the Westminster Police Department Traffic Division at 714-548-3770, or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS or by logging on to www.occrimestoppers.org
