A Friday night report of shoplifting at Fashion Island in Newport Beach led to a chase involving several police agencies that ended with two arrests in Brea.
Around 7:53 p.m., a man and woman reportedly stole $35,000 in high-end purses from Neiman Marcus – the second major theft reported at the mall this year – and fled in a white Mercedes, according to Newport Beach police.
They were pursued by several Orange County law enforcement agencies and the Huntington Beach police helicopter until they were stopped just after 8:30 p.m. near Carbon Canyon Regional Park, Newport Beach Police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella wrote in an email.
Police arrested Isaiah Damar Abdullah, 20, of Montclair, and Ryanne Shandrick Mitchell, 19, of Apple Valley, on suspicion of burglary, according to Manzella. Both are being held at the Orange County jail with court appearances scheduled Tuesday, Dec. 26.
According to news reports, Louis Vuitton luggage worth $8,300 was stolen from the same Neiman Marcus in July, resulting in three arrests, and earlier that month at South Coast Plaza, $14,000 worth of designer handbags were taken from Bloomingdales.
