Worker suspected of stealing $2,000 from Fountain Valley senior home resident with dementia

A Hawthorne woman who worked at a Fountain Valley retirement community has been arrested on suspicion of stealing money from a resident of the home with severe dementia, police said on Friday, April 23.

The 48-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday, April 21, on suspicion of elder abuse, according to Fountain Valley police. Elder abuse includes financial exploitation.

Police found that in 2019 the suspect accessed a Wells Fargo bank account of the 79-year-old victim, Fountain Valley Sgt. Antonius Spangler said in a statement.

The suspect charged around $2,000 dollars of unauthorized purchases over two weeks, the sergeant said.

The victim lived at the Seaside Terrace Retirement Community, where the suspect worked. Jail records show the suspect was released the day after her arrest.
