At 4:27 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, Santa Ana police received a shooting report and found a woman in the parking lot of 1473 S. Main St., near Edinger Avenue, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to her upper body. Orange County Fire Authority personnel treated her at the scene and transported her to a local hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

On Friday, Maria Del Refugio Mora was pronounced dead.

During the preliminary investigation, officers determined that two boys were shot at from a white sedan, Santa Ana police said. They ran into the parking lot as they were being fired upon. They were uninjured, but Mora, an innocent bystander, was hit.

Police posted surveillance video of the attack on YouTube.

Detectives believe the motive could be gang-related and are attempting to identify and locate witnesses who can shed light on the homicide.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call SAPD Homicide Section detectives at 714-245-8390, or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS. The case is eligible for the Gang Reward Program.
