Wife of suspected burglar files wrongful death suit against Anaheim Hills resident

A woman filed a wrongful death suit Monday, April 2, against an Anaheim Hills resident who she says shot and killed her husband in 2016 during a suspected burglary.
Fe Miller of Calabasas alleges 40-year-old Ryan Miller was unarmed when Emil Shaheen fatally shot him in the back with a shotgun.
“Ryan Miller clearly had nothing in his hands and posed no threat to anyone,” the suit says. “Decedent was moving away from defendant.”
The shooting occurred in the early morning hours of  June 6, 2016 in the 100 block of South Eucalyptus Drive.
A resident reported to police he saw a man inside his vehicle, which was parked in the driveway. The resident, armed with a shotgun, had a confrontation with the suspect and fired one round, authorities have said.
Officers found the suspect, identified as Ryan Miller, nearby with a gunshot wound. He died at an area hospital.
After the shooting, Shaheen failed to provide medical assistance to Ryan Miller and didn’t notify emergency responders for several minutes, Eric Dubin, an Irvine attorney representing Fe Miller, said Monday.
“We want to know how an unarmed man was shot in the back,” Dubin said. “It’s not as if there was a lot of fear (by Shaheen) involved.”
There are no records on file with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office indicating Shaheen has been charged in connection with the shooting.
Shaheen couldn’t be reached for comment.
The lawsuit filed in Orange County Superior Court seeks unspecified damages for Fe Miller and her two children.
