Warmer temperatures, winds return to Southern California

Warmer weather is making a brief return to Southern California Sunday and Monday, with temperatures rising to the 80s amid moderate Santa Ana winds.

The winds and low humidity will cause “increasingly elevated to brief critical conditions” through Monday night, with up to two to five hours of red-flag conditions in the windiest areas, according to the National Weather Service.

On Sunday, north to northeast wind gusts between 20 and 40 mph will continue over the I-5 corridor, Santa Clarita Valley and Santa Monica Mountains. Gusty southeast winds are likely Monday night over the mountains, with continued dry conditions.

The high in downtown Los Angeles was expected to be 81 degrees Sunday, rising to 86 on Monday before dropping back into the 70s and upper 60s for the rest of the week, according to the NWS.

A cooling trend and is expected Tuesday into Wednesday as another weak weather system approaches.
