Update: 6-year-old girl struck, killed by suspected drunken driver in Fullerton

FULLERTON — A 6-year-old girl was killed Saturday afternoon after she was struck by a vehicle, which police say  was driven by a man who was driving with a blood-alcohol level that was nearly three times the legal limit.
The driver, 52-year-old Maximino Delgado of Anaheim, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving, felony vehicular manslaughter and driving with a suspended license, Fullerton police said.
Police responded to the incident at about 2:14 p.m. in the 1400 block of Lombard Street. When officials arrived at the scene, they said, they found the girl lying on the sidewalk with life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, police said.
Officials said Delgado was driving a 1990 Toyota 4Runner east on Gage Avenue when he tried to make a southbound turn onto Lombard. He lost control of the vehicle and drove onto the sidewalk, hitting the girl who was outside playing.
Delgado continued driving on the sidewalk and reentered the roadway, where he crashed into a parked vehicle, officials said. He remained at the scene and cooperated with police, who determined he was driving under the influence. Breath tests showed his blood alcohol content to be 0.23 percent, which is almost thrice the 0.08 percent legal limit.
Delgado is being held in Fullerton City Jail with bail set at $2 million. The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Fullerton Police Traffic Bureau at 714-738-5313.
