Three men were sentenced to prison time Wednesday for holding a Long Beach man captive three years ago, robbing him and pistol whipping him during a terrifying 12-hour ordeal, officials said.
Judge James D. Otto sentenced Patrick John Adams, 24, of San Diego, to 17 years behind bars following his no contest plea in July to one felony count each of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and dissuading a witness by force or threat. Adams also admitted to inflicting great bodily injury and using a pistol, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
Six-year prison sentences were handed down to Eric Javier Riddle-Rios, 25, of Anaheim, and Ryan Scott Urban, 25, of San Diego, who pleaded no contest to second-degree robbery and assault with a semiautomatic firearm, respectively.
Police said that in February 2015, Adams invited the 22-year-old victim, whom he knew socially, to his home, then Riddle-Rios and Urban allegedly tied him up, assaulted him with blunt force instruments and demanded money.
The victim’s home was burglarized, his car was stolen and his ATM card was used to withdraw cash, authorities said. The next morning, Adams took the victim to a bank in the 5700 block of East Pacific Coast Highway and he managed to alert a bank employee to call 911.
Adams was arrested and the victim was taken to a hospital.
Riddle-Rios was apprehended after the Orange County Sheriff’s Department found the victim’s vehicle in Dana Point two days later. Urban was later arrested in San Diego.
