Torrance man arrested for fatal shooting outside Stanton nightclub

A Torrance man was behind bars Tuesday, Aug. 10, on suspicion of fatally shooting a man in the parking lot of a Stanton nightclub two months ago, authorities said.

Jose Perez-Ortiz, 30, was accused of killing 28-year-old David Hernandez of Anaheim in the parking lot of Mexico De Noche following a confrontation sometime before 2:30 a.m. on June 5, Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Carrie Braun said.

Valerie Aguirre, 29, of Bellflower also was arrested Monday on suspicion of being an accessory to homicide, Braun said.

Orange County deputies initially didn’t find anyone when they were called to the nightclub in the 10500 block of South Magnolia Avenue, but later learned Hernandez had been taken to a hospital, where he died, officials said.

Sheriff’s investigators served multiple search warrants throughout Southern California, Braun said. During the service of those warrants, detectives also found the vehicle, a red Jeep captured on surveillance video fleeing the scene following the shooting.

Detectives also found more than 30 firearms and seven pounds of methamphetamine, Braun said. It wasn’t immediately known if any of the firearms was the murder weapon.

Further specifics about where the search warrants were executed were not disclosed by officials.

What sparked the confrontation, or whether it spilled out to the parking lot from inside the nightclub, was not immediately known.

Both Perez Ortiz and Aguirre were being held in jail on $1 million bail, according to inmate records.
