Sunflower sea stars are critically endangered, but can humans help the species rebound?-media-9

Millions of Sea Stars have have died from wasting disease along the West Coast over the past ten years but now, scientists have figured out how to spawn the critically endangered Sunflower Sea Star. This is an adult female Sunflower Sea Star at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024. The Aquarium of the Pacific in collaboration with Birch Aquarium in San Diego have been able to successfully spawn the species and currently the larvae are in their fourth stage, with one more stage to go before they metamorphosis and begin to look like stars.
