String of Fountain Valley necklace snatchings targeted elderly women, police say

A Fountain Valley man who police said snatched necklaces from elderly women in a string of robberies has been arrested.

Police said detectives were waiting for Larry Tripp, 56, when he left his house in the 17500 block of Santa Rosalia Street on Friday, June 4. Tripp was seen on surveillance camera footage walking up to a woman in Fountain Valley on May 27 before taking her necklace, they said.

An image from the surveillance cameras provided by police shows a masked man walking past a woman, then reaching back to grab her necklace before fleeing. Police said there were two more robberies of elderly women after this. At least one of the victims had a minor injury after she was robbed.

Police said they identified Tripp from the camera footage, then when they went to his home. When they confronted him, he fled, “jumping fences into the back yards of multiple residences” before he was arrested.

He was booked in Orange County Jail on $50,000 bail on three counts of robbery and elder abuse.
