Staff from The Orange County Register took a journey along the Santa Ana riverbed to find out as much as we could about the homeless people who live there.
To some, they are seen as a nuisance. To others, they symbolize a broken system. But some of the roughly 1,000 people who have created a community for themselves in encampments by the Santa Ana River prefer the term “roofless,” and this is their home.
