Santa Ana man arrested in deadly downtown Long Beach shooting

A Santa Ana man was arrested in connection with an early Saturday morning shooting in downtown Long Beach that left one man dead and another injured, police said Sunday, July 25.

Daniel Williams, 24, was arrested at his home in the 2900 Block of South Bristol Street around 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, the Long Beach Police Department said. Williams was booked on suspicion of murder, attempted murder and carrying a concealed weapon after he was allegedly found with a loaded gun, police said.

He is being held on $2 million bail.

The shooting happened around 1:20 a.m. on Broadway and Pine Avenue in the city’s entertainment and business district, police said. Williams and Javante Fearence, 36, of Long Beach, were in an argument before Williams pulled out a gun and fatally shot Fearence, police said.

Police said that Williams and Fearence did not know each other before the incident.

Another man was also struck in his upper body by gunfire during the incident, however, police believe he was an unintended target. He was treated and released from a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
