Driving to and from work is a way of life for many commuters throughout Southern California, and it can be a difficult grind. We’d like to share some transportation news and tips that may help you get around easier while also getting you out of your car.
Joining a vanpool is one way to avoid the hassle of driving your own car every day. The Riverside County Transportation Commission offers vanpools for drivers through its VanClub. This program offers eligible Riverside County vanpools a $400 monthly subsidy toward the cost of a vanpool lease, which includes vehicle maintenance, roadside assistance and insurance.
VanClub runs 36 vanpools, saving commuters money on gas and reducing the stress daily driving and and dealing with traffic. Taking a vanpool can also mean less wear-and-tear and maintenance on your vehicle. Visit https://www.iecommuter.org/rp2/home/home to see if this could work for you, or to join a vanpool. Speaking of useful local transportation websites, here’s another one worth checking out if you’re traveling around Southern California: https://go511.com for help.
The Southern California 511 website offers traffic advisories, real-time train and bus arrival updates, bike routes, Auto Club news and ridesharing information for folks in Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, Ventura, and Los Angeles counties. (This website used to be called Inland Empire 511, as you may recall, but now it’s been integrated into the SoCal 511 network to make it more regional.) This service is provided through a partnership between the Riverside County Transportation Commission, San Bernardino County Transportation Authority, Orange County Transportation Authority, Ventura County Transportation Commission, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority, and the Los Angeles Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies.
Finally, if you live, work or attend school in the Hemet-San Jacinto area, forget Uber and Lyft – you now have a new, local service from the Riverside Transit Agency that you can use: GoMicro.
The GoMicro program launched Dec. 19 and uses mini buses that run daily and serve almost 300 stops. Riders in the Hemet-San Jacinto area can book rides on a cellphone from the GoMicro app, through the website or by calling 951-633-2629 to make reservations.
Fares are the same as the regular bus, and you can pay on the bus with cash or through the app.

Riders have to reserve a ride and can only be dropped off at bus stops within the zone. You can reserve a ride up to seven days in advance. Hours for rides are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
