Police shot and wounded a man on Saturday afternoon at Huntington City Beach, authorities said.
The shooting took place about 3:15 p.m. at the beach, just south of the Huntington Beach Pier, said Jennifer Carey, spokesperson for Huntington Beach police.
The U.S. Open of Surfing is underway there this weekend.
Police gunfire injured one individual, who was transported to a local hospital, Carey said.
The precise location of the shooting, the condition of the person shot and the circumstances of what led up to the incident were not immediately available.
The department said there is no threat to public safety.
